The end of Supreme predicted by a Netflix humorist

Can Supreme business die because of the Carlyle group other investment? Well that’s the vision of a Netflix humorist called Hasan Minhaj. I understand it can be a bit confusing, especially when you have read our previous article on the success of Supreme strategy, but this man presents some interesting arguments and explore an unseen face of the Carlyle group.

First, Hasan proposes a retrospective of Supreme history (you guys already know all this but it’s still amazing to here the Supreme story once more) and emphasize the power and the influence of the brand, of course using a humoristic tone. The humorist also draws a parallel between the current scarcity business of Supreme and the scarcity business of Jordans. Hasan also covers the Veblen curve, which explain how consumer behave with expensive product. Finally, he ends up by talking about the Carlyle group

I bet you all remember what the relationship between and Supreme the Carlyle group is, yes you are right it is the exact group who invested $500 million in the brand and who own 50% of it! Well, it seems that this group may not be the most social-conscious group ever. Indeed, this group has invested in many brands such as McDonalds, Hertz, Dunkin Donuts, but also on drilling platforms and military contracts. An aircraft stemmed from a military contract between West co, larger shareholder is Carlyle group, and a British Defense company is currently used by Saudi Arabia to drop bombs over Yemen. All in all, Carlyle group which almost own 50% of Supreme has strong links with war company.

Even though this is from a humoristic show, Hasan Minhaj does highlight an interesting point. Supreme can very well suffer from the image of Carlyle group and we saw how fragile Supreme scarcity model is. This may explain why “Supreme has been very quiet on the Carlyle group investment” according to Hasan Minhaj

.The entire video is definitely worth watching and here it is.

See you later fashion lovers!
